Early summer abundance

These are my favourite flowers: roses, foxgloves, honeysuckle, peppery-scented old fashioned pinks… All the wonderful old fashioned cottage flowers are here in abundance now, smothering the walls and billowing from the borders, and scenting the air of the garden with their fresh sweet perfume. This is my favourite time of the year, although I am aware that I think this thought at various times throughout the changing seasons. But in early June everything is fresh and clean and new and exuberant, this year even more so, it seems, perhaps because of the long wait for warmth and the pent up energy as the plants waited to put forth flowers. Now they are superb, and there are so many we can’t possibly use them all. Happy for the bees!
