Now we’re having fun

Midsummer’s day approaches and we are all drunk on flowers. At the walled garden we are surrounded by tumbling roses, thrusting towery foxgloves, sweet-scented tendrilly sweets, and new surprises every day. We have turned into flower-picking machines, especially Barney, but we are also creatures of nature these days and we need less sleep at this time of year, and we buzz with excitement as the garden pulses with life and blooms and abundance. Little Henry, seeing us do practically nothing but pick flowers, picks them too, and is very proud of his beautiful posies. The mini hens seek shade under the fruit bushes, soon to be ripe with berries. What a glorious time of year.
